I am thinking about going to Abilene Christian University. I just signed up to go visit on
January 23, 2009 I'm excited. I hope this is where I will go. College decisions are very stressful and confusing to me. Hopefully I did well enough on my ACT to go to this college...or any college... Did i mention this college is $26,156?? This is what worries/ stresses me... Every time I see the cost of college, I think I forget how to breathe... I hope it all works out...uggg...

Hey honey. I just wanted to encourage you in your search for a college. I wouldn't pay a whole lot for your bachelor's degree. Unless your plan is to do something specialized or unusual, I would recommend you spend as little as possible on it. If it's free ride, go there. But if it's not, it's totally not worth it. My whole student loan was about $20,000 for 6 years of school. You are talking about doing that per year. Even with a pell grant (financial aid) if you qualify, you're looking at needing another $20,000 a year in scholarships, which is not normally given at private universities. A teacher's salary after graduation is one of the average paying bachelor-entry jobs. In SA, that will pay about $35K, In Dallas, Some over $40. So you're looking at needing to live and pay off $80K, maybe more, in student loans. It will be decades before you will be able to pay it off. That's almost as much as a house in some towns. A HOUSE!! And that is for the same piece of paper that you can get at ASU for the equivalent of less than one year tuition. Even if you live on-campus, it's far less than Abliene Christian. Save the big bucks in case you want to do a Master's program. Then you might make enough more money per year to warrant the extra money on a student loan. It's something to really consider. Plan your education based on how much you will make in your profession after you graduate.

here are some websites you might check out:

That's a fun calculator to play with to see how much money you need to make to live after you graduate.

Texas workforce provides all kinds of resources to help you see what careers you may want to look into. Here's their website:

If you are planning to go into ministry, keep in mind that ministers are called and are normally not paid well. There are other ways to earn ministry credentials that are cheaper than going to a Christian University.

Love you. If you have any more questions or whatever, I'll help you any way I can.
